Welcome

I know its now mid February but New Year New Blog! A little out of my comfort zone but finally starting regular updates to the blog. I’m Kiran and every post will give a little glimpse behind the scenes. Great way of documenting and letting you all know more about me and about my brand. It’s just me who creates and manages Kirandeep Bassan. I started the business in 2016 selling printed Fashion and Home accessories. Digitally printed scarves, pocket squares and bag ties and most recently a range of canvas, art prints and limited edition products.

Bag Ties

Bag Ties

My scarves, pocket squares and bag ties are printed onto 100% silk and hand hemmed. There are a lot of steps to create each fashion accessory. I use the hand painted sketches to create repeats and placements in Photoshop, which are then digitally printed onto silk then hemmed . The range of canvas’ are hand painted on a range of sizes. I will go into a closer look of all the processes and the inspirations in some upcoming posts.

Currently based in my hometown of Northampton, and when I decided to set up the studio I knew exactly how I wanted to decorate. A 'organised mess' does come to mind when you see it but it's a great little space to be inspired. I love to hand paint everything and I try to use every single colour I possibly can, so its always important to have an inspiring desk. Whenever I have a design block, I reorganise and instantly find new inspiration.

Studio

I graduated from University of Northampton where I studied Fashion. I have always loved print and it was during my final year where I discovered how much I enjoy working with colour. I won the Zandra Rhodes, Textiles Award at Graduate Fashion week 2013. I LOVE screen printing and I had so much fun creating this winning collection. Everything was hand dyed and screen printed including the shoes. It was from this collection I knew I wanted to set up my own brand. As much as I would love to continue screen printing, digitally printed fabric is more cost effective and accessible, but as I hand paint everything my prints still have an organic feel.

I spilt my time of running my own business and freelancing. Its a nice balance of working on my own brand and with designers and print studios to create a variety of prints . Trend researching, initial sketches, development, putting prints into production, hemming, mailing, website edits, social media...always something to keep me busy.
